Last month we harvested almost 15kg of grapes. Far too many to eat, too many to just turn into jelly, and we don't drink much grape juice (unless it is the alcoholic variety!). What to do? I decided to get out the dehydrator and try making sultanas.
I craqzed the grapes briefly (dip in very hot water) to crack the skins to assist in the dehydrating process, then left them in the dehydrator for about 24 hours (some a bit longer - probably didn't craze as well). We ended up with three decent sized jars of rather tasty home made sultanas. Slightly tarter than the shop bought variety, although th egreen grapes were sweeter than the red ones. Perfect for the winter porridge season!

I can't wait to make these! Perhaps when we finally get our farm in New Zealand, we will plant a grape arbor. Until then, I shall have to live vicariously through you, By the way, are you anywhere near Adelaide? My sister lives in Adelaide and I will be visiting her next year. It would be really neat to meet you for a coffee or something. :-)
You're off to visit Kelly the city mouse? I miss her blogging too. I was in Adelaide a few years ago and hoped to meet up but she had gone "offline" for a few months and we missed each other.
In Australian terms I live kinda close to Adelaide - it's "only" about a 10-12 hour drive from my place! LOL But if you are going to be near Melbourne let me know
I miss her blog, too. She's busy being an amazing mommy and finishing up at university. While she's busy with two little ones, I know she would love to meet up if you are ever in the area again.
I will likely rent a car while visiting her. if I get one of those snazzy unlimited mileage plans for the car, I would definitely plan a trip your way! I'll keep you posted. :-)
Super! Next time you are in touch tell her I said hi and congrats on the additions to her family!
